Ilkley Grammar School has a thriving Creative Arts Curriculum Area staffed by experienced and dedicated teachers. Students are encouraged to achieve in an atmosphere of enablement and inclusion. The Curriculum Area consists of the four departments; Art, Drama, Media and Music. Each subject has a head of department. Creative Arts has ten teachers, seven instrumental teachers and an art technician, all of whom work together to produce cross-curricular activities including concerts, musicals and exhibitions. The whole team have created two successful, original musicals in the last two years which involved over 150 students in a range of differentiated activities from set painting to lighting, with every aspect of the show being managed by students of all age ranges and abilities.
Students learn to respect themselves and others; to raise their self-esteem in a way that addresses the needs of the whole child and we have many examples of students who have thrived in this type of environment. Staff members are dedicated and hard-working, expecting high standards and showing how to achieve them. Art, Media, Music and Theatre Studies are all studied right through to A2 level with many students going on to study the subjects at colleges and Universities all over the country.
