Modern Foreign Languages

The Faculty of Modern Foreign Languages comprises seven members of staff who teach in two departments, French and Spanish. It also benefits from the presence of two Foreign Language Assistants between September and June. The FLAs provide valuable access to native speakers and an opportunity to broaden the students’ cultural awareness. The Faculty is located on the first floor of the "new" block and facilities include seven classrooms all equipped with digital projectors.

A range of extra-curricular activities are available all through the year from the European Day of Languages in September to the Language Festival in July. Students are encouraged to learn in different ways, for example, the Year 9 Project in the Spring Term. The Faculty runs revision classes to support KS4 pupils with preparation for their Controlled Writing and Speaking Assessment.

Post 16 students are given the opportunity to support KS3 classes as an enrichment activity.

The Faculty also runs two exchanges, one with a school in Coutances (France) and another with a school in Madrid (Spain). Year 11 pupils may choose to take part in the 4 day cultural visit to Barcelona. Students in Years 12 and 13 are also given the opportunity to go on a week-long work experience in Spain or France during the Spring Term.
